What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a medical system that has developed over many centuries. It looks not only at an isolated symptom, but also at patterns involving sleep, digestion, energy, temperature, emotional strain and general wellbeing.
Two medical perspectives
Western medicine and TCM use different explanatory models. Western medicine is essential for accurate diagnosis, emergencies, surgery and the targeted treatment of many diseases. TCM additionally asks how symptoms may be connected and how treatment can be adapted to the individual person.
In my practice, I value respectful cooperation between both approaches. Existing diagnoses, laboratory results and medication are taken into account. TCM treatment does not replace necessary medical examinations or specialist care.
What do Yin and Yang mean?
In TCM, Yin and Yang describe contrasting but interdependent functions. Health is understood as a dynamic balance rather than a fixed state. This is a traditional TCM model and should not be confused with a modern scientific diagnosis.
An individual assessment
A TCM consultation may include questions about appetite, digestion, sleep, energy, sensitivity to heat or cold and daily stress. Observation of the tongue and feeling the pulse are traditional parts of the assessment. They do not replace blood tests, imaging or other medically necessary diagnostic procedures.
